Does anybody know how to get it complied from cvs? That would solve my problems with the library incompatibility.
I think it's great that you can get binaries for programs, but sometimes it's more useful to be able to get it compiled from source.

Andrew, I remember how much hassle it was to run it under linux. Marcin is not involved in that project, and I have no contact with Morten. But it's a good idea to ask the maintainer, whether these packages will end up in multiverse archives.

Kay, given the lack of further development of Qutemol, it's hard to disagree. I use Qutemol only for two purposes - shape perception (assessing quality of my protein models) and fancy graphics for publications/front pages/posters/my thesis. Hopefully sooner or later real-time ambient occlusion will be supported by other molecular viewers as well.

A while ago I have tried qutemol on windows, but I was very disappointed. Maybe I didn't get the point, but to me the whole program looks like an exercise in computer graphics (what strange effects can be reached by unusual light sources) and has very little to offer to the scientist.

I remember about a year ago managing to get the Windows version running under Cedega (a Wine fork pitched at gamers). Nice to see a native Linux version ... it works fine here. Since the debs are hosted on Launchpad, am I right in guessing that Morten / Marcin will ultimately make Qutemol available in the universe or mutliverse repositories ?
